Paying Your Agent – What you need to know.
In 2024, the laws changed in how real estate agents are paid. A real estate agent can no longer advertise a shared commission on her listing for another agent who brings her a buyer.
Because there is no longer a guaranteed commission from the seller to pay a Buyer’s Agent, a buyer is now required to complete an Exclusive Buyer Representation Agreement prior to working with an agent. This agreement states the buyer is responsible for their agent’s compensation. The agent will then attempt to secure this amount directly from the seller as a part of the purchase agreement.
You will need to complete the Exclusive Buyer Representation Agreement along with the Ohio Consumer Guide to Agency Relationships before you can hire a real estate agent to help you find a property.
I can assist you in understanding the paperwork you will need to complete before we get started.
